Wizardess Study

I created this Wizardess Study based off a concept piece by Darina Kai. I was really inspired by this piece as it really captures the essence of a fantastical medieval world, which is something I hadn't yet explored in my art. I wanted to make a magical and warm looking environment to embody my chosen theme of "A Happy Place".

I adapted parts of this piece as I wanted to include a magical element and make it more managable for the time frame I had to work in. Darina created another concept piece of a wizardess who I felt really fit into this environment. I decided to alter the environment to make it seem as though this magical wizardess lived there. Inspired by the blue themed concept art of the wizardess I decided that the wizardess would be a friendly, animal loving soul who could do water magic, similar to waterbenders from Avatar the Last Airbender. This was my inspiration for creating a mystical water filled fountain, surrounded by wispy creatures.
To illustrate the wizardess' animal loving nature I also created a frog to sit on and swim in the magical fountain water.
I wanted to light the scene at golden hour as I felt this was representative of my chosen theme of "A Happy Place". I also wanted my stained glass windows to leave a colourful shadow from the golden light leaking through them.
I had a really fun time recreating this scene in 3D and would like to give special thanks to Darina Kai for giving me permission to work from her concept art.
